A letter from a 'typical Labour supporter'

I have come in for a bit of criticism for having a go at Blair and the state of the current government. It seems, as someone who is a Labour blogger, I am disallowed from giving a critical appraisal of the incumbent Labour Government. “Typical Labour supporter,” is a dismissive slight I have heard many times. Personally I think this is nonsense.

Well said... and for the second time today, I'm forced to repeat an excerpt from Backing Blair's closing statement:

"There are a number of things that the Blair government has condoned, allowed, enabled or instigated under this banner that are well out of order; 'little' things like pre-emptive military strikes, the use of media, black propaganda and even legislation to stifle dissent, detention without trial, torture and murder... we could go on and on. Apparently we were supposed to stand by and let all of this happen so we didn't undermine the Labour Party. Sorry, but no."

Thanks Tim. Nice of you to call by, tygerland hasn't had such an esteemed guest since Guido last popped in, http://tygerland.net/2006/11/13/why-the-leftwing-blogs-should-stop-whining/#comment-12874" rel="nofollow">here.

He stole the towels and left the toilet bowl in an awful state; I trust you would do no such thing?

Methinks that the "typical Labour supporter" has too thin a skin and has misunderstood the "bit of criticism"

Typically, parties of the right are more interested in power than policy. They tend to be disciplined and are content to put their own personal views on one side for the greater good.

Parties of the left tend to be quite different. They tend to be peopled by more idealistic members who demand adherence to dogma in the face of pragmatics. They don't adhere to party lines and demand the right to think for themselves.

The former are usually the government, the latter the opposition. Both are usually quite happy with that.

Give me a free thinker any day.

Wow. You don't know when to stop do you?

I'm incapable of free thought now.

I should go back to bed. ;)
