Nick Boles and THAT conflict of interest
Tuesday, February 6, 2007 at 4:29PM
It seems Tim over on Bloggerheads has uncovered a rather shady conflict of interest for London mayoral wannabe Nicholas Boles. An incestuous love triangle exists between Nick's mayor of London campaign, Fox News lite 18DoughtyStreet, and a rather slippery Tory thinktank called Policy Exchange.
You see Nick is the director of Policy Exchange, and rather interestingly Iain Dale, a director of 18DoughtyStreet, is also a trustee of Policy Exchange. Now this may not strike you as particularly insidious (at least not for a bunch of Tories), but it transpires that 18DS is planning to run negative ads against London Mayor Ken Livingstone, who the internet television channel calls "The unacceptable face of London." Now Tim and CuriousHamster have been badgering Iain Dale to explain why his 'television station' would be running negative ads against Red Ken and whether this would represent a conflict of interest regarding his associate Nicholas Boles?
It also transpires that Nick is using Policy Exchange resources to organise a prospective campaign.
A quick line from the Policy Exchange website: -
Independent? Charity? Crikey, I hope Mr. Boles knows what he's doing. I'm not sure charities should be employed for political ends. Aren't there rules about this? This is just the sort of conflict of interest that sad tired old Guido has been getting so many miles out of. Ol' Fawkes is busy doing ToryHQ's dirty work by smearing Gordon Brown, claiming that Brown is using The Smith Institute (another of these thinktanks) as a vehicle for his bid to become PM. Guido we must remember is not a Tory, and yet he doesn't seem to want to run with the Policy Exchange story. What's good for the goose is good for the gander Paul.
Anyone else smell a rat?

Policy Exchange is a registered charity. We are completely independently funded and rely on generous support from a range of donors to carry out our work.

That would be like the Smith Institute or IPPR, then?
Pot. Kettle. Black.
Errrr.
Isn't that, like, the whole fucking point?
language boys.
as an aside, i have heard it being said that paul Staines is a stain on society. is this true?
Language?
Traffic. I don't swear for the sake of it. I make the assumption that my readership are adults. And I treat them as such. I don't water down my language, this would patronise you. But then again, I don't cuss gratuitously.
As for Staines. I have heard that rumour too. 'Stain on society' presupposes he's particularly relevant, Staines' star is waning.
Hahahahahahahaha! Well done, Anonymouse777.
What a moron. BTW, I've spent the past week having Guido Fawkes fans question my sanity because I've been speaking in third-person... just like Guido Fawkes.
Oh, hello Tyger. We almost bumped heads there.

There are so many of these Anonymous Tory bloggers, Francis Maude has had to number them.
Step forward Anonymouse777.
Hi Tim
Good work today. Suppose you never got that nap?
No, I didn't. But I would have missed that series of visits by Policy Exchange if I had.
Thanks, by the way.
(My manners are slipping ater spending so much time in the company of Smear Boy and his gutter-gang. Does it show?)
I don't know Tim. From where I'm sat you're starting to enjoy your Guido 2.0 mask. Careful it doesn't weld itself to your face and you become an egotistical wanker permanently. These Guido masks have a habit of doing just that.
Ha!
Tim is a cut 'n slice man. of masks. He is a mainstream man. and is comfortable with the concept of goodness.
