I've got my mojo back!
Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 7:04PM
As many of you dear readers will be aware, a small collective of likeminded bloggers, led by the industrious and tenacious Tim Ireland, have contributed to a couple of metablogs that highlight some of the insidious techniques used by Precious Iain Dale and Paul DeLaire Staines (or whatever his real name is… Mr. Taxman, do you know?), to skew debate on their blogs and within the blogosphere in general.
I have to admit it. I wondered if it was getting us anywhere. I shouldn’t have worried, it seems that we got right under their skin. Having drafted in Dizzy, they have knocked up a bit of code that diverts referrals to their main page, which means that ‘deep-hyperlinks’ (used by us to highlight instances of deception) dump the reader on the main site, or (and this is very nasty) somewhere else…
I just dropped on Dizzy’s site, via Tim’s bloggerheads site, and was redirected to page3.com. No warning. No heads-up about being ‘not safe for work’. Nothing. Talk about good protocol/etiquette, eh? But, alas, this is the sort of small-mindedness you get used to on this increasingly incestuous British blogosphere (I do hope Dizzy will reconsider which sites he chooses to send unknowing blog readers to, I hope he can be big enough to realise how silly this is).
Like I said, obviously we are getting under their skin. And naturally this has given us just the motivation we needed to continue. Thanks Dizzy!!!
Oh, and don’t worry, there are very easy ways of circumventing these petty little tricks.

err there is nothing "not safe for work" on the Page 3 default site. What a load of bollocks.
ps. Better not visit FHM or MAXIM whilst at work, you might get fired!
FHM and MAXIM can easily be classified as LSFW as opposed to the clear boundary of NSFW (Page3.com has tits, the others have titillation). Do try harder, Dizzy... you've had enough time to get your story straight.
Page.3.com default page does NOT have tits. You're talking bollocks Lassie, bollocks, layered on bollocks, with a few more bollocks thrown in. You will not find a single visible nipple anywhere on the default page.
Nipples? Default page? Reaching, aren't we?
You won't find nipples on the default page of playboy.com, either... but being caught at either site via an across-the-office glance or electronic records is still likely to cause problems for most employees.
Don’t be naïve Dizzy. That URL itself is likely to raise eyebrows and lead to an awkward situation. It was a daft thing to do. Period. You can thrash around all you like trying to justify it. You’re wrong.
But still, like I said, thanks for giving me my Mojo back.
Ha-ha... Dizzy meant you to say that.
;o)
hahah you still don't get it do you. C'est la vie. Till the next time I guess
Dizzy,
Having just read your http://www.bloggerheads.com/archives/2007/05/bloggers_objecting_to_deeplinks.asp#comments" rel="nofollow">tête-à -tête over at Tim’s, I’m inclined to wonder whether or not you believe your own bullshit, or whether you’re just plain misguided. I’d ask if I gave a shit.
I’d also like to congratulate you on your gracious exit. I hope you got home safely.
Heh. You're kidding, right? He managed to firmly lodge his foot in his mouth and *then* shoot it. The door hitting his arse on the way out was the least of his worries.
:o)
My congratulation may have had a sardonic tinge, I admit.
:oD
As it turns out, Dizzy agrees with me... he's just switched his redirect to disney.com
He's also playing some other game that I had a quick fiddle with during the Tessa wrestle, but - despite the clear focus of the deep-link post - he hasn't yet worked out that he's only a sideshow when he's not unwittingly proving one thing or another about Dale and Staines.
It's a good thing he's not a Tory activist or candidate, otherwise this would be a terrible waste of this time on the eve of an election.
The term "useful idiot" springs to mind.
