Nail. Head. Hit.
excellent point aaron, and very well made.
would the ArchBishop of Canterbury have the same level of apathy as the Brits. if not why do we just not follow his leadership?
Ash, with respect, this ArchBishop of Canterbury stuff is nonsense.
I have no problem with British godlessness, in fact I see it as a sign of our development.
Yeah we need faith. We need the faith that our votes mean something - that democracy means we get some power as voters. That when we vote for "progressive" politics, we actually get it.
This Labour government has done extensive damage to the idea that we, the people, have any real influence on the body politic. Why should people have faith?
"We need the faith that our votes mean something - that democracy means we get some power as voters"
think the time for this coming.
Having said that - Our votes mean something = the state values us.
but i think it is very important that we value ourselves too
and that is where the God as an entity comes into the equation.
would yu agree?
incidently it is nothing to with being good or bad, as different faith's have different ideas of what THAT is,
In my book, politics has nothing to do with God.
Politics by nature is atheist, asexual, a-anything, it's just politics.
And yes, votes still have importance much that the media and politicians have struggled to decaff them.
The outstanding Barack Obama has gone beyond valuing himself and his country and has moved to the next phase...exactly what his country is ready for
valuing the world as a family.
and hence has granted his formal interview as a president with the
"Barack Obama on Monday night granted an Arabic-language television channel his first formal interview as president – an unprecedented gesture that appeared aimed at offering the Muslim world a sharp contrast with his predecessor, George W. Bush."
In my book, politics has nothing to do with God.
for sure.
God as a concept has to do with how much at ease one is with him/her self. and that itself can change one's politics!
God is a concept, with which we measure ourselves said Mr. Lennon and it has no part in the political process.
As for Brits being apathetic, yes BUT we still turn our nose up at captial punishment, we know that Saddam had nowt to do with 9/11 and we also don't believe god blesses us and only us and that Jesus will come back to smite everyone with his big sword.
Swings and roundabouts.

Humanist. Realism. I agree.
However, there is excessive romantcism in the nation - The Great in Great Britain. which is being removed now, and which led to Iraq and the City as we knew it/
It is only by channeling that excess romanticism into the world of religion could those excesses have been avoided.
Thru religion we have healthy self control.
God is a concept, with which we measure ourselves ....
No god is concept that we use to achieve a sense of completeness. Hindu's have hundred's of god's.
yu chose the one which suits.
swings and roundabouts.

.
ofcourse. small swing and a massive roundabout though. I would say!
we also don’t believe god blesses us and only us and that Jesus will come back to smite everyone with his big sword

it is not god who blesses us, it is we who bless ourself for our good fortune, when we feel complete.
...
re conept of sin, I rather talk about "enlightened self interest".
...
re an external entity which punishes or rewards us.
It is only we and we only who are responsible for THAT. I would say
Ash, you're a tit, check your bad self.
